¡Muerte a los anuncios de compresas! - Death to sanitary towel ads!!

Tú no me conoces, soy tu menstruación”.

¡Jo, me he quedado bien a gusto! ¡Feliz jueves!

My blood boils every time I see a tampons or sanitary towels advertisement. I always wonder if those ads are thought and made by women and my answer is always –no way-. How can a rational woman think, talking about the period, menstruation, you name it, that the best way to sell the “solution” to the problem is to talk about it as if we were 2 years old toddlers and she was a teacher that would ask us in the sweeter voice and the most welcoming smile –Dear girls, how do the clouds smell?, how does the rain smell? - To picture this perfectly, imagine Ana Botella, Major of Madrid, in front of the International Olympic Committee, talking about Madrid as the best candidate to the Olympics Games. She even was dressed in red! Could not be more appropriate, looking alike the woman in that other ad who said –“Hello there, you don´t know me, I´m your menstruation”-. Click here to watch it.

We already have enough suffering few days a month, every month, for a big amount of years in our lives, excluding those fortunate ones who pass those days as if nothing happen, (you, yes, you, we hate you a little, just so you know); to have to look like dumb on commercials were we are the objective public. Like if in that days women become crazy about rolling skating, biking or doing flashmobs wearing miniskirt and high heels and shout out loud –“I love being woman”-. And of course, I love being woman, but not because I have the period, and actually I love it a little less when I have the period. What about the women with menopause? Don´t they love themselves because they don´t menstruate anymore?

The other option is to sell the compress, tampons, whatever it is, as if made in a far far future where everything is white, spotless and sanitized, and all the inhabitants look like the children of “The Village of the Damned”, creepy… And by the way, FYI, women menstruating bleed; I mean real blood; and not just a few drops of some liquid that looks like Bombay Sapphire gyn.

And this is it, always talking in general, but the rag is a pain in the ass. It comes few days a month, leaving you more or less knackered and goes after that as if nothing happened; is a woman in red that spoils your party. So let´s talk clear, call the things with the right names and put the women on TV where they belong, with their foot on the earth and not floating on the clouds smelling the things that do not smell.

Happy Thursday!

¡Feliz lunes!

Last weekend we went away for a family trip to celebrate a relative´s birthday and as we are a large family with so many children, we chose for the occasion the Priego´s Touristic Villa, in Cordoba, South of Spain. We have been there a few times already to celebrate this kind of events, because with half of the family living in Andalusia, the place is perfectly located.

The Touristic Villa is a resort built as a typical South of Spain villa, in which each house is an accommodation with different capacity to host more or less people, everyone with its own living room and kitchen. Some of them have even their own private swimming pool.

In the complex there is a main building where the reception, restaurant and common sitting rooms are located, in front of which there are a large patio and the main swimming pool, with the incredible view of the mountains.

The place is perfect to sunbathing, read a book, enjoy the landscape or just lay there doing nothing. And it´s specially perfect to go with the kids as they can play and run around the little streets and alleys, in the main patio and in the children´s playground. Furniture is very basic in a rustic style, but it makes its function perfectly.

In the surroundings there are a lot of small lovely villages to visit and 7kms away you will find Priego de Córdoba, a larger town with a lot of touristic locations.

Here you have a few pictures of the Villa. Hope you like them!

Have a nice Monday!

Poco a poco de vuelta - Slowly but surely coming back

I don´t know when was the last time I wrote something, and I´m a bit out of practice. I can count with one hand fingers the times I turn on my laptop at home since I started my maternity leave and the truth is I was starting to miss it, same as I was starting to miss a little bit of routine, talk to other adults and stop being on Telletubbi mode 15 hours a day with my kids.

I had lot of changes in this past five months, including a change of home, which nearly got me crazy; we have had to learn to be four instead of three, specially little Enzo, that has now a little baby sister with whom to share everything he knew to his own until now; and to juggle with the 24 hours of the day to still have no time for nothing, I´ve had a pile of winter sweaters over a chair saying “hello” to  me every time I cross the room literally since the moving day, waiting there to be put on the right shelves on the wardrobe, and every day I say to myself “I´ll do it today no matter what”.

Trust me when I say I can´t tell where the hours go but they just go by! And my little mountain of clothes still remains as it was put out of the moving box. Luckily for me weather is being quite hot these days so I´m not needing them!

So step by step, slowly but surely! And about the damn sweaters I´ll do it today no matter what!
